What Everyone Should Know about Phone Features

You are familiar with the basic mobile phone features, such as Call Waiting, Call Forwarding, Voice Mail and Caller ID. But what you should look for a phone is the added features that fit into your lifestyle.  Today’s phones are equipped with loads of useful features in multimedia that includes a camera, Web browser, Global Positioning System and media player for entertainment.

You need to consider the following when purchasing your next cell phone:

Cell Phone Mode

If you travel a lot you need to consider buying dual band phone. Dual band phones have a functionality that allows a cell phone to support two frequency bands. Having more than one frequency in one device is useful to enable roaming between different countries that allow transmission frequency at different values or to allow a better coverage in the same country. This is now a common feature in smart phones.

Battery

There are two types of batteries one is Nickel-Metal Hydride, this is a type of secondary electro chemical cell similar to nickel hydrogen cell. The NiMH battery uses a hydrogen-absorbing alloy for the negative electrode instead of cadmium. This is a high capacity battery that provides extra power when use in a long period of time. The other one is the Li-ion or lithium ion is a type of rechargeable battery in which lithium ions move from the negative electrode to the positive electrode during discharge, and from the cathode to the anode when charged. Lithium-ion batteries are common in portable cell phones because of their high energy to weight ratios, lack of memory effect, and slow loss charge when not in use. This type of battery costs more compared to NiMH.

Document

Most of the smart phones and other kinds of cell phones allow you to create documents or review documents. For some phones, you need to download this, so make sure to check phone features and reviews before buying.

Global Positioning System

This technology is useful in helping emergency respondents when 112 or 911 are being dialed. This technology is within our reach and others are even using this as the map when directions are needed to an unfamiliar address. GPS even helps you find hospitals and even restaurants.

Media Players

Nearly all media players in cell phones are very proficient that lets you listen to music or sort music with regard to type, album or name of the artist you can even create play list and watch videos.

Memory Card

Memory slots have been available to most of the phones and allow memory cards that increase storage capability. Formats of memory card include Micro SD, mini SD and SD card.

Keyboard

Keypads on regular phones are difficult to use when use to compose or send emails. QWERTY keyboard makes text and e-mail messages editing easier to use.

Voice Command

You can dial numbers by pronouncing the numbers or by speaking the name of your contact that you save in the phonebook.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth enables the cell phone to work with wireless headsets and most hands free devices including hands-free car systems to take calls. However, do not use your phone while driving this is for your safety and others on the road. Some can wirelessly exchange contacts, exchange pictures, videos and other compatible Bluetooth devices, such as PDA and computer.

Hearing Aid Compatibility

Note that some Bluetooth devices interfere with hearing aids. Even those with hearing-aid compatibility are not 100% sure to work. You have to seek help from your doctor which phone is compatible to your hearing aid.

Wi-Fi

A Cell phone internet connections powered by 3G network are generally slow compare to your internet connection at home. However, other smart phones have built in wireless or radio that has Wi-Fi that has a capability of a quicker and consistent e-mail access and internet through Wi-Fi hot spots, coffee shops, malls and even in home networks. Some Wi-Fi phones can also connect or file swapping with a computer and even calling using VOIP-Voice over IP.
